I was listening to On the Media today and the well known phrase “Music has charms to soothe a savage breast” was mentioned. Wait a second, it’s supposed to be “savage beast”…right?
Wrong.
Turns out that the phrase comes from the 1697 William Congreve play The Mourning Bride. The same fellow also penned “Heaven has no rage like love to hatred...

I was surprised to learn today that author Michael Crichton died of cancer today. He has always been one of my favorite fiction writers…and his non-fiction book Travels was one of my favorite reads.
Also, it appears that Russia’s President isn’t all too happy with our country at the moment. That can’t be good. Someone get James Bond on the phone…
