This is a very nice online app for guitarists. Unfortunately, I foresee the RIAA will be none too pleased and it probably won’t be around for long. [via Lifehacker]

Rick: [scoffs] You understand how I feel. How long was it we had, honey?
Ilsa: [on the verge of tears] I didn't count the days.
Rick: Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out.

Most of this software I’ve used, some I use on a regular basis, and some I intend to try out.

– How to Stop Hitting the Snooze Button - wikiHow - Try this: find a digital alarm clock without a snooze button. If you find one, send me a link. I’ve found that the snooze feature is pretty much ubiquitous.

PickensPlan: an environmental solution that uses wind power to replace natural gas, and natural gas to replace some of the foreign oil expense. It’s an interesting idea, but, as he says, it’s a partial and short term part of working on the problem at hand. [via of72]

I found The Moth via This American Life…and so far, everything I’ve heard has been good. Their tagline: “True stories, told on stage, without notes.” Listen to this one…the entire thing…and tell me that it doesn’t move you. It’s by Ed Gavagan, and it’s called “Drowning on Sullivan Street.” Be warned: there is some bad language.
Starbuck's Chai Tea (recipe)
3 cups water
3 cups milk
6-8 black or decaf black tea bags
1/2 cup honey
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cardamom
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground ginger
Bring water and milk to a boil. Add other ingredients, return to boil. Turn off heat and let steep for 3-5 minutes. Remove tea bags then filter through fine strainer. Good hot or cold. [via...
Michael Moschen juggles rhythm and motion | Video on TED.com - I’ve done a bit of contact juggling, which Moschen popularized as the hands of David Bowie in the movie Labyrinth. In this video he demonstrates the amount of control that you can learn to have over your own body. He also demonstrates that moment of learning where most people choose to give up. I’d still like to learn...

Windows Live Photo Gallery - Beyond AutoStitch? →
Every now and then, when it recaptures my attention, I look for information on the current projects of AutoStitch developer Matthew Brown. In my most recent attempt, I’ve discovered that he is apparently now working at Microsoft Research. Very interesting. I may now have to check out Windows Live Photo Gallery, as panorama stitching was recently added to it.

Photosynth (Build 10683) - Fort Pulaski near Savannah, Georgia, USA - I’m not very impressed with Photosynth’s stitching of the photos. I could understand if it didn’t stitch everything together, as some of the lighting was bad and not every side is covered, but many of the panoramas didn’t even stitch together properly. I’ll definitely stick with Autostitch, but I...

The word "draught" in British English
Today I was looking for a more interesting way to learn CSS…a lesson in the form of a game, preferably. I happened across a site called CSSplay, which isn’t quite what I was looking for, but interesting, nevertheless. Anyways, I was reading a bit about the author in which he said he was a retired “draughtsman” from the UK…and something in my head clicked (the little...

The Once and Future King
I heard this rumor that King is really the only gametype in Geometry Wars 2 that truly shows your skills. It’s just a rumor, of course. These online scorecards are pretty cool.

New Yorkers try to swallow calorie sticker shock →
New York City will now fine restaurants that do not have the calorie count displayed next to an item’s price. I can only hope that this spreads across the country. It’s such clever legislation, as it forces the restaurant to be honest and the consumer to be accountable. [via gtmcknight]
The Tumblrnator
3 billion human lives ended on August 29th, 1997. The survivors of the nuclear fire called the war Judgment Day. They lived only to face a new nightmare: the war against the machines. The computer which controlled the machines, Google-Skynet, sent two Terminators back through time. Their mission: to see if they could convince me to post to my Tumblr via Gmail. I’m not really sure why they...

Paper, Plastic, and Publix →
Publix is offering reusable cloth grocery bags to its customers. This is really cool…but I don’t know that consumer goodwill is enough to significantly cause a massive change in habit. I think it’s going to take a hit to the wallet to really slow the use of plastic bags. Imagine if stores charged a fee for every plastic bag used and that money went to some kind of...

I was aware of light pollution prior to hearing about it on The Leonard Lopate Show, though the discussion is interesting. I can only think of a handful of times in my life where I feel that I’ve truly seen the night sky with great clarity.
