Publix is offering reusable cloth grocery bags to its customers. This is really cool…but I don’t know that consumer goodwill is enough to significantly cause a massive change in habit. I think it’s going to take a hit to the wallet to really slow the use of plastic bags. Imagine if stores charged a fee for every plastic bag used and that money went to some kind of environmental fund…a sort of “green tax”. Sure, the bags could be recycled…but recycling seems to be more of a temporary fix than a solution, doesn’t it?
